Hyundai has unveiled details surrounding the Australian launch of its premier high-performance electric vehicle (EV), named the Ioniq 5 N. This latest addition expands Hyundai’s electric lineup and is set to compete aggressively in the performance EV segment.
While the standard Ioniq 5 has garnered a reputation for its impressive design and generous space, it has traditionally been viewed as more suited for family use. This perception contrasts with the EV6 from Hyundai’s sibling company, Kia, even though both cars are built on the same platform. However, with the debut of the Ioniq 5 N, Hyundai aims to bridge that performance gap.
Earlier in June, hints about a high-performance variant of the already popular Ioniq 5 model began to circulate when Hyundai dropped some teasers. This excitement culminated in July when the vehicle made a spectacular appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Sporting a robust 448 kW power output, the Ioniq 5 N stands tall as one of the mightiest EVs available in the Australian market.
Interested consumers can anticipate this high-octane variant of the admired electric SUV at a base price of $111,000, exclusive of additional costs. Hyundai also offers a couple of upgrades for those looking to customize their Ioniq 5 N further: a Vision Roof priced at $2,000 and a Matte Paint finish available for an additional $1,000.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Pre- Sale Event
Pre-sale event on September 15th, granting customers the golden opportunity to secure some of the earliest available units of the Ioniq 5 N in Australia. Drawing inspiration from the online launch strategy of the original Ioniq 5, this time, customers can place their orders online during a 12-hour window that stretches from midday to midnight AEST.
As a gesture of appreciation, Hyundai is treating early-bird customers to an exclusive “Hyundai N x Pelican set”. This special package includes two distinct cases, a torch, and an array of branded merchandise. Potential buyers can lock in their orders for the Ioniq 5 N by making a deposit of $2,000. The first batch of deliveries is projected to hit the roads in early 2024.
Ted Lee, the esteemed CEO of Hyundai Australia, expressed his enthusiasm: “The Ioniq 5 N pre-sale initiative is our way of offering our devoted ‘N-thusiast’ clients a front-row seat to the electrifying world of Hyundai N’s maiden all-electric marvel.”
One of the most compelling aspects of this launch is Hyundai’s commitment to personalization. Each Ioniq 5 N will be meticulously crafted according to individual customer specifications, ruling out any stock of pre-set N models.
Diving into the technical specifications, the hyundai Ioniq 5 N showcases a robust motor capable of delivering power outputs ranging from 448 kW to a potential 478 kW, courtesy of an electronic limited-slip differential. This power-packed configuration can thrust the car from a standstill to 100 km/h in a mere 3.4 seconds. Ensuring optimum road grip are the Pirelli P-Zero tires that elegantly adorn the 21-inch aluminum wheels.
Energy demands are met by an 84 kWh battery pack. When paired with a suitable ultra-rapid charger, it can rejuvenate from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
Hyundai hasn’t stopped at the mechanics. The exterior of the Ioniq 5 N boasts a plethora of aesthetic enhancements including distinct graphics, a lip spoiler, and stylish side-skirts, to mention a few. Inside, the cabin radiates luxury with N-branded decor, a revamped steering wheel, sporty seats, and premium pedals.
Historically, the “N” designation has symbolized the performance-centric variants of Hyundai’s internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup. Therefore, it’s a momentous occasion to witness the advent of an electric N performance model within Hyundai’s Ioniq EV portfolio.
Hyundai’s strategic shift towards the EV realm is evident. The introduction of the N variants in the electric domain is a testament to their forward-thinking vision for the brand.
